A bottle involves care in choice in regards to burping, which must be done during and after feeding a baby. Typical bottles were found to sometimes lead to more ear infections, therefore there are now inverted ones made so that baby will be sitting up slightly when feeding. This also helps less air enter upon suction, helping to reduce the need for repeated burping and producing less tummy aches. The bottle was a contemporary lifesaver; busy house moms in the fifties could not be tied down to breastfeeding all day long. Then as women began to enter the work force, there arose a need for the bottle to help them as well. One could not maintain a job with baby clinging to the breast all day long.
