The Shakespeare ultralight department has done a lot to improve their overall company rating in the angling world. You used to be able to go out and pick up a cheap $20 rod and reel combo made by Shakespeare, usually with a plastic reel, and a rod that would last you forever called the Ugly Stik. This rod is built from a proprietary method that Shakespeare holds onto tightly. Shakespeare ultralight has done more though than just developing the Ugly Stik brand of ultralight fishing rods, but instead have finally put more time and money into researching and development of their ultralight fishing reels. This means that the quality you have gotten from the Ugly Stik will carry over to the ultralight fishing reels you are going to be using.
