How To Make A Wooden Rocking Chair

Your children will love these little wooden rocking chairs that they will be able to paint in many colors, and that they will be able to display proudly or use when playing with their dolls.

What you will need

16 old fashion wooden clothes pins
White glue
A little time

Start by separating the pins in order to have thirty two halves, all you need to separate them is to remove the metal spring in the middle.
Then you will be making the separate components of the rocking chair. The seat is made from six half pins glued to each other on the narrow side. One side of the seat will end up flat, and the other will be humpy. (this is because of the shape of the pins, in other words all the half pins are oriented in the same direction.)

Each leg is made by gluing two half pins back to back. The base of the rocking chair is made of two parts, each formed by gluing three half pins at the ends. The two sides are joined by three bars across, two to the front and one on the rear. To glue the parts more easily, place them between the two sides of the rocker, you will then automatically have the correct spacing.

For the back two side vertical sections are made with two pins glued to each other on the flat ends in such a way that one of the sides is flat. Join the two sides of the back by using three half pins. Then each section of the back is attached to a foot by the sharper end. You can now attach the seat to the base that is already attached to the sides of the back. You attach it to the area where the pins show the deeper indent.

Then finally you can add the front legs. Keep all the pieces to be glued together, to make it easier you can use some support under the seat and another propping support for the back. All you have to do then is add the armrests and attach the rocking chair on the base. Ensure that all glue is completely dried before decorating. You can stain your rocking chair to give it a rustic look, then varnish, or you can paint it in bright colors, white or black if you want to really show off the dolls dresses. Make a few to display a doll collection in a glass case.
