The types of research done in entry level finance can range quite dramatically.  The topics can be scattered from historical records to personal finance and global markets.  Because of the wide range of subjective topics and research needs the work can become quite tedious.  It is also less than rewarding and work can easily be claimed by those who have become more clever and resourceful in hogging the credit and promoting themselves in front of the team or company.  This is why the financial world can sometimes be referred to as cutthroat.
