Nintendo definitely shocked the world (especially the video game community) when they announced the Nintendo Wii. The popularity of the Nintendo Wii skyrocketed and even people who never owned a video game system went out and bough a Wii. Now, Microsoft is wanting to cash in on this demographic by taking the motion-control gaming idea to the next level. An accessory for the Xbox 360 called Kinect will be available in the fall of 2010, that will allow you to be able to control video games with your entire body. This will open up some new possibilities for the types of games we’ll be able to play.
Here are some of the games for Kinect that you can expect to see: Kinectimals is a game that will allow kids to be able to play with their own virtual pet. They’ll be able to speak commands to their pet (via Kinect’s voice recognition capabilities) as well as show the pet how to do different actions, like rolling over and playing dead. EA Sports Active 2.0 will allow people to be able to get some good exercise in while getting some valuable real time feedback on how well you are doing each and every exercise. Star Wars Kinect will allow you to step into the Star Wars universe, and swing a light saber around by actually making the swing motions with your arms.
One question that gets asked a lot is will you able to use Kinect on PC games? Right now, you won’t be able to, but the people who sold the technology to Microsoft have announced that they will be making some games similar to Kinect for the PC. I wouldn’t doubt if Microsoft also plans to allow you to control their next Windows operating system with a series of hand gestures thanks to a Kinect-like technology.
Kinect is definitely going to make you think about how you play video games in a whole new light.
