Taking the time to winterize above ground swimming pools will protect the pool from being damaged. Performing pool service for the winter is easy when pool owners follow these simple steps.
-Balance alkalinity, ph, and calcium levels.
-Remove all deck equipment including rails and ladders.
-Clean sides of the pool and sweep in thoroughly. If this step is not done the dirt could leave stains on the pool.
-Add winterizing pool chemicals to protect water quality.
-Lower the water level below the water jet in the pool or insert a gizmo in the skimmer and plug pool line. Pools should not be completed drained, because this could cause the pool to collapse.
If a pool is hard plumed the water needs to be blown out of the system by using an air compressor. The air compressor will blow air down the skimmer and the through the plumbing. If pool is not hard plumbed remove flexible hosing , drain plugs, and other pool equipment.
Inflate an air pillow and tie string to two places on the air pillow. Put the air pillow in the center of the pool and tie the strings to the wall of the pool. While having an air pillow is not necessary to winterize an above ground swimming pool it is a good idea to have, because the pillow will help stop the pool cover from being pulled into the pool
Place a pool cover on the pool and secure it. If Pool has a deck, water tubes, filled three fourth of the way full with water, should be placed around the edge of the pool. These will help hold the cover in place.
The final step to winterizing an above ground pool is to put a pool cover pump in the center of the pool cover. Pool pump covers are important because they will drain extra water off the pool cover.
