Using wood columns on the exterior of a home is a way to add a touch of elegance to the entrance. There are several styles you can choose if you’re in the process of having a home built. The styles available are Greek Doric, Tuscan, Ionic, Corinthian and Roman Doric. These are examples of classic columns that are most commonly used in architecture today. The difference will be in the top design and the shape of the column itself.
Some columns will be round where others are designed to be square. The top and bottom of the column can be very ornate with a lot of scroll work or simple. The columns can be used as the support beams for a porch area on the house to create a dramatic effect.
